Leadership Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Initiative - Term Paper Example There must be a person wherein the group can put its total certainty and on whose directions, they can work independent of their individualistic contrasts for the more prominent reason for example the accomplishment of the objective. That individual is pioneer. Authority is showed in the reasoning and philosophy of the pioneer. For reasons unknown, the pioneer is better than the supporters. ââ¬Å"Plato suggested that authority requires an extraordinary ability, and just those rare sorts of people who have such ability ought to be prepared toward its appropriate usage. Having thoroughly built up this ability, the scholar lords, the gatekeepers, ought to ruleâ⬠(Cawthon, 2002, p. 10). This predominance may originate from more noteworthy experience, information, aptitudes, or some other quality that is of incredible worth and criticalness in the accomplishment of the objective that the pioneer and the devotees are commonly keen on accomplishing. Without initiative, the group turns out to be only a group or a lot of individuals with clashing perspectives and thoughts. They may have all the aptitudes required to accomplish the objective, yet their abilities can't be put to the correct use without appropriate initiative. There are sure abilities that are critical for a person to accomplish be compelling as a pioneer. A portion of these aptitudes incorporate; realizing where to adhere to a meaningful boundary between the pioneer and the supporters, keeping up uprightness as a pioneer, completing exchange adequately, the capacity to continually inspire the adherents, and passionate knowledge. A pioneer needs to separate himself from the supporters so as to hold his status as a pioneer. On the off chance that he doesn't have the foggiest idea where to take a stand while interfacing with the devotees, he may basically debilitate his job as a pioneer regardless of whether he hypothetically is evidently a pioneer. This aptitude is more in-conceived than educated. It requires right dynamic while managing the supporters. The pioneer should realize how to decipher his technique for the supporters, how much data to provide for the devotees, how much can the adherents be associated with the dynamic, and where the connection between the pioneer and the adherents changes from easygoing to carefully proficient. This line is hard to draw especially in the long range interpersonal communication time of today where the pioneer and the supporters come at a similar level being companions at the person to person communication sites. Authority is an all day work. One can't be a pioneer exactly at the working environment and not be a pioneer outside the premises of the work environment. What an individual does somewhere else imparts messages and signs to the supporters about the way of thinking, belief system, and character of their pioneer. Adherents will in general adjudicator the pioneers from their managing others in regular day to day existence and not ex actly busy working. This makes keeping up uprightness as a pioneer troublesome since one is inclined to committing errors as a person. No individual can prevail as a pioneer without having sound arrangement aptitudes. The most significant aptitude that makes an individual a compelling pioneer, as I would see it, is the exchange expertise. In the current age, a pioneer faces numerous difficulties concerning arrangement that are installed not just in the distinctions of perspectives, character attributes, and societies of the pioneer and the adherents yet in addition in the cutoff points on language skills while working in a socially different condition. Social assorted variety is one of the most key highlights of the work environment in the contemporary age. So as to comprehend the supporters

Employee voice Essay Example for Free
Worker voice Essay ââ¬ËEmployee voiceââ¬â¢ recommended by Geoff Armstrong (refered to in Armstrong,2001) in the ongoing issue of Industrial Participation Association (IPA) Bulletin, truly implied aggregate dealing, and that this ââ¬Ëchosen technique for joint guideline turned into a restraint hindering the very things we should have been doing to win and keep clients! ââ¬â¢ Win and keep the clients since criticisms and recommendations originated from the representative who manages the clients each day of their work. Organizations can get the realities from how the client grumbling about their item and to what fulfills them. The word ââ¬Ëvoiceââ¬â¢ was advanced by Freeman and Medoff (refered to in Freeman Medoff, 1984) who contended that it appeared well and good for both organization and workforce to have a ââ¬Ëvoiceââ¬â¢ system. This had both a consensual and conflictual picture; from one perspective, interest could prompt a helpful effect on quality and efficiency, while on the other it could distinguish issues which in any case may ââ¬Ëexplodeââ¬â¢. Dundon et al (refered to in Dundon, 2004;MC Cabe Lewin, 1992; Wilkinson et al,2004). The four chief strands of the idea or types of ââ¬Ëvoiceââ¬â¢ that are accessible to workers are: an enunciation of individual disappointment; presence of an aggregate association; a type of commitment to the administration dynamic; and as a type of commonality in the association. In the verbalization of individual disappointment, the worker expects to address a particular issue or issue with the administration that is generally introduced as complaint methodology or ââ¬Ëspeak upââ¬â¢ program. An open door for worker agents â⬠association or non-association â⬠to impart the perspectives on the workforce to directors either through organization or aggregate haggling is the type of aggregate association. As a type of commitment to the administration dynamic its motivation is worried about enhancements in work association and proficiency all the more for the most part, maybe through quality circles or group working. It is accomplish by an exchange with representatives giving plans to improve the authoritative execution. The last structure is the commonality in association in conveying long haul suitability for the association and its workers, regularly through joint counsel, aggregate haggling and additionally organization. In an article by Sharon Shinn (2004,p 18), The Maverick CEO, he inquired as to whether business understudies were perusing a contextual investigation of Semco what was the important exercise they would they remove and he addressed that, ââ¬Å"the primary exercise is that opportunity is a prime driver for execution. â⬠Through my exploration I accept that the entirety of the employeesââ¬â¢ profits by ââ¬Ëemployee voiceââ¬â¢ simply spin around Semlersââ¬â¢ thought. At the point when a representative has the opportunity to communicate it engages him to choose the approaches that must be done to accomplish a specific target of the organization as indicated by his beliefs in work and life by and large. At the point when one has the opportunity to state what for him isn't right or right it gives him the poise of a specialist of the organization as well as somebody who can roll out an improvement and impact individuals on top for the better eventual fate of the organization. An example of the perfect is shown in Semco where workers can cast a ballot to veto new items or new item adventures. At Semco, (refered to in Samler, 2004) ââ¬Å"workers support their own managers and individuals possibly go to gatherings on the off chance that they think the gatherings are significant. It works as a result of peoplesââ¬â¢ personal responsibility. No one needs to remain in exhausting gatherings or work for managers they didnââ¬â¢t pick. â⬠Furthermore, ââ¬Å"of course, you can make individuals come to gatherings and look alert, yet itââ¬â¢s increasingly hard to get them to perform what was chosen at the gathering. We need individuals to follow their impulses and to pick as supervisors individuals they regard â⬠regardless of whether they donââ¬â¢t like them. This frequently occurs at Semco. â⬠ââ¬ËEmployee voiceââ¬â¢ can be diverted among association and non-association voice. Correlation of advantages among association and non-association voice has been noted. (refered to in Freeman and Medoff, 1984) contended that solitary association types of voice would bring about voice benefits for laborers and the board. The thinking behind this contention is that without an association to guarantee reasonable treatment and an impartial dispersion of the products of progress, people come up short on the motivating force to seek after open merchandise. Association voice advances ââ¬Ëindependenceââ¬â¢ not at all like direct voice mechanismsââ¬â¢ where its viability is tested in their ability to change the force relations in an association because of absence of assents for rebelliousness, aggregate force and access to autonomous wellsprings of guidance or help, non-association voice systems are progressively vulnerable to administrative impact and control (refered to in Golan,2009; Terry,199; Wilkinson et al, 2004). In actuality, non-association or direct voice has been likewise contended to be better than association voice for 2 reasons: first, boundaries among businesses and representatives can be broken down by managing representatives instead of through a middle person (refered to in Bryson, 2004; Story, 1992); and second, direct voice permits supervisors to all the more likely react to the heterogeneous interests of laborers (refered to in Storey,1992). Another unmistakable advantage of ââ¬Ëemployee voiceââ¬â¢ is clear in the ââ¬Ëmonopoly faceââ¬â¢ of unionism, whereby associations try to limit the flexibly of work to the irm in quest for higher wages and advantages. In a general perspective in light of the ââ¬Ëemployee voiceââ¬â¢ supervisors give progressively positive reactions to worker needs, more prominent degrees of power over the work procedure and expanded impact over occupation rewards. In connection with the advantages that can be picked up by employeesââ¬â¢ through ââ¬Ëemployee voiceââ¬â¢ the said firms that rehearses this sort of framework have a ton to increase out of it. One significant factor that influences the companiesââ¬â¢ gainfulness is its work cost. Voice is viewed as significant, in their great work on US exchange Unionism, (refered to in Freeman and Medoff, 1984) post it that it is hypothetically feasible for worker's guilds to improve the efficiency of firms since they give voice to laborers. They contend that association voice can be efficiency improving where voice costs are lower than the expenses of disappointed laborers stopping, and lower quit rates urge firms to put resources into human capital, bringing about an increasingly talented and profitable workforce. In association voice it might likewise decrease the exchange costs that workers face, for instance, by upholding and observing agreements (refered to in Booth, 1995; Kaufman, 2004; Kaufman and Levine, 2000). The organization of Semco is an incredible case of this, (refered to in Shinn, 2004) Semler and an extreme supervisory crew totally overturned customary business hypothesis at Semco, getting rid of traditional authoritative outlines while permitting representatives increasingly more opportunity to pick what items they would work and how they would create them. Numerous workers were killed by work reproduction or left since they couldnââ¬â¢t handle the unrest. In any case, the individuals who remained got energetic about Semco and their place inside it. At Semco they additionally have faith in persistent development and improvement so (refered to in Samler, 2004) ââ¬Å"people at Semco, by setting their own timetables and outstanding tasks at hand, are progressively adept to invest significant time for learning. â⬠He said that there were additionally vacations, and a framework whereby individuals can decrease and increment their work a long time by course of action with their groups. They additionally have Retire-a-little where individuals can take a day, or half-day, off each week, to do what they would when they resign. Due to such changes, (refered to in Semler, 2004) noticed that it have raised Semcoââ¬â¢s income from a $35 million to $160 million over the most recent six years. Likewise, (refered to in Shinn, 2004) Semler is profoundly engaged with advancing a working environment where opportunity and adaptability is commended that he built up a school in Sao Paolo rehearsing his qualities. (refered to in Samler ,2004) ââ¬Å"the school is set up and has begun selecting two-to-multi year olds. We need to change things at the beginning stage. At this school, our children decide the guidelines and settles on choices ever week at a school meeting. We donââ¬â¢t need to holler and point fingers at kids. They are splendidly ready to settle debates and guidelines alone. We do sit in to encourage, when they need. â⬠Furthermore, ââ¬Å"at the Lumlar Institute, which runs the school, we build up a mosaic innovation to show free youngsters successfully, something that the instructive world thinks nothing about. Since our children are obliged to be in school however not in class, it becomes us to intrigue them â⬠and we do. Youngsters are now remaining 1. multiple times longer at our school, out of unrestrained choice, than at different schools in the framework. In the wake of characterizing that there were two arrangement of ââ¬Ëemployee voiceââ¬â¢ which are non-association (immediate) and association, also looking into the advantages of executing ââ¬Ëemployee voiceââ¬â¢ to both the representatives and friends, Australia appears to put more significance to non-association voice that than association voice. Result from the investigations of scientists demonstrates that, for instance, AWIRS (the Australian Workplace Industrial Relations Survey) shows that lone 16% of work places were there worker delegates on sheets in 1995. (refered to in Morehead et al, 1997; 506-67). Additionally non-association of worker portrayal was not systematized as they are in EU (European Union). With the Decline of Union participation, with 22% of representatives presently being unionized (and just 17 percent in the private area), there is a developing ââ¬Ërepresentation on gapââ¬â¢ for employeesââ¬â¢ with some scholarly specialists contending that work

Mass Media And Its Impact On Our Daily Life Essay
The ringtone of my phone went on for five minutes without a momentââ¬â¢s respite. It was my alarm clock at 6:45 am. Although my mind was still in a fog when I finally got up, I turned on my iphone, and saw two friend requests on Facebook plus three new likes on Instagram. My everyday life routinely starts with me being exposed to mass media. Indeed, in the modern society, the mass media have been vested with such an enormous power that can impact multifarious aspects of our daily life. As a 19-year old college student majoring in fine arts, a female, an Asian, unmarried and childless, a dependent on my parents, an owner of a MacBook Air, an iPad Mini, an iPhone 6S, and an iPhone 5C; an active social media user, an avid YouTube watcher, but not a huge fan of music or a big TV watcher, I started my media log on Tuesday (August 30th), in order to lay hold of my current media use; since then, Iââ¬â¢ve been logging all of my media exposures and interactions in my life for five days. Through analyzing the media log, not only do I try to trace the specific patterns within my personal media use, but I also manage to shed some light on the impacts that the mass media is casting on me and everyone who live in this era. The Salem Witch Trials, Mccarthyism, And Today s Events...
Sarah Bannon Bannon 1 English 2 P.6 Ms. Ryan 4 December 2015 History Repeats Itself The myth about history repeating itself is true. History repeats itself because in most past and present events, nobody wants to be associated with the persecuted group. Society always has a group that people oppress. The reason that there is always a group being persecuted is because nobody wants to be a part of the victimized group. The Salem Witch Trials, McCarthyism, and todayââ¬â¢s events with ISIS are all similar because in all of these situations, people live in a state of fear and suspision. During the Salem Witch Trials, Francis Nurse started a petition to prove the innocence of his wife and other women. In court, Procter handed the paper to the judge and said, ââ¬Å"Will you read this first, sir? Itââ¬â¢s a sort of testament. The people signing it declare their good opinion of Rebecca, and my wife, and Martha Coreyâ⬠(Act 3). After viewing the paper, Parris said, ââ¬Å"These people should be summoned. For questioningâ⬠(Act 3). Even though the people signing the petition meant well, they were brought into court and questioned. During the era of McCarthyism, some graduate students at the University of Chicago started a petition for a vending machine that they felt was needed. Their colleagues refused to sign the petition because ââ¬Å"they did not want to be associated with the allegedly radical students whose names were already on the documentâ⬠(Schrecker, 92). Patriotism Essay Example For Students
Patriotism Essay Address before the Mens Club of the Prospect Street Congregational Church, Cambridge, Mass., June 7, 1898. There are moments in every mans life, in the life of every nation, when, under the excitement of passion, the simple truths which in common times are the foundation upon which the right order and conduct of life depend are apt to be forgotten and disregarded. I shall venture tonight to recall to you some of these commonplace truths, which in these days of war need more than ever to be kept in mind. There never was a land that better deserved the love of her people than America, for there never was a mother-country kinder to her children. Friends provide the safety and belonging even in times of war. People betray their country in their everyday actions, they deceive their employer, they lie to others, they cheat, and steal; but, one always thinks twice before betraying the trust of a friend. Shinji and Reiko remain loyal to what is important, their friends. Not only do Shinji and Reiko choose their friends over their country, they also find happiness in choosing each other rather than continuing in a world in which the two could not be together. This perfect union between the two illustrates something people search for everyday. Everyone is looking for his or her own Shinji or Reiko. This need to find a soul mate has spawned books, movies, songs, and plays. The boy meets girl scenario is a part of everyones life. In Patriotism, boy did meet girl, and this is a part of what makes this story universally appealing. People simply want someone with whom to share there lives. Finally, ones own personal freedom is more important that loyalty to ones family or country. This is probably the most egotistical of all choices a person makes. According to Abraham Maslows hierarchy of needs, satisfying the basic needs of ones self comes before even considering the needs of others. Shinji and Reiko are simply satisfying their need for personal freedom with their suicide. Anyone, given Shinji and Reikos situation, will act in the same way. Bibliography: .

This book was titled Five Families: Mexican Case Studies in the Culture of Poverty. The culture of poverty theory is one which states that living in conditions where poverty high rates of poverty are observed in high amounts will lead to creation of a culture or even a subculture which has adapted to the conditions of poverty.à This culture has been characterized by the ever present feelings of being marginalized, feeling dependent, being helpless, and feeling powerless. Individuals who live inside of a culture of poverty have no real sense of history and therefore they lack knowledge needed to alleviate the conditions in which they live through collective action. Instead they focus only on their individual problems. When poverty is imposed on a population that structure can actually lead to the development of a culture of poverty. This result s in individuals becoming autonomous, and developing attitudes and behaviors which are passed down from one generation to the next through socialization. The ethnography in which this theory made its first appearance renders poor people as a legitimate subject transformed by poverty. The original ethnography argued that the burdens of poverty are systematic and when the burdens are imposed upon members of society they form a subculture. This culture is formed by children who are socialized into attitudes and behaviors which perpetuate poverty and create their own inability to escape the impoverished environment in which they live. This theory further acknowledges that all past factors which have created this condition of society including substandard education and housing as well as a lack of job opportunities, sufficient social services with persistent discrimination and racial segregation together no longer matter. This theory perpetuates the notion that the cause of poverty and present behavior and the attitude of the poor people themselves. This would imply that public assistance to those who are poor, in the form of direct assistance or welfare will not eliminate poverty because the poverty is inherent within the culture of the poor. By following the reasoning laid out by this anthropologist the blame for poverty is shifted from the economic and social conditions and placed upon the poor people themselves. A great deal of the evidence presented in the original publication in support of this theory suffers from fallacies in the methodology. Because of this, when publicly criticized during the 1970s the theory became less influential but did make a comeback in the early 2000. During this time it impacted welfare reform once again with particular influence on Assistance for Needy Families in 1997 and again in 2005. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan used this theory in 1965 to support a publication about poor African Americans. This report stated that poor black people in America were stuck in a tangle of pathology and it was this pathology which caused the breakdown of the modern black family. It was argued that the traditional family among the African Americans during times of slavery was broken by slavery itself. It further stated that black males felt a sense of powerlessness during slavery which since that time had created a culture of dependency. This culture of dependency was argued to be the reason that traditional male headed households were declining among black families and the reason that black males were not succeeding as well in the social ladder. Overall the characteristics of the culture of poverty emphasize traits of maladaptive behaviors and attitudes from those who live in poverty. It is argued that people who live in poverty develop a subculture which adapts to the conditions, characterized by regular feelings of being marginalized, dependent, helpless and powerless. Furthermore those who live within a culture of poverty have no real sense of collective history and therefore cannot alleviate the condition based on collective action. Instead, these individuals focus on their own troubles and their own troubles alone. References: Owens, Patricia. The Family, the Culture of Poverty and Welfare Provision.à RAINà 63 (1984): 6. Web. Essay on Italians in America
Essay on Italians in America Essay on Italians in America Example Essay on Italians in America: The Italians immigrated into the USA for various reasons, since the 18th century. As a matter of fact, since 1946, approximately 300,000 Italians settled in the United States of America During the early periods, as they began to move into the country, they were faced with massive discrimination. They were discriminated on the ground of their nationality. They were seen as intruders and foreigners in the country For instance, Irish Catholics were barred from exercising their religious rights. They were also barred from receiving quality education, becoming professions, holding public offices; involve themselves in trade or commercial. They were also derived off the rights of purchasing a land, voting and leasing land. Due to all these, the Italians living in America at that time had to look for some survival strategy. They used the ethnic strategy to become acceptable American. In this paper, we are going to discuss about these ethnic strategies, which were used by these people (Morri son,et.al., p. 20-39) To begin with, they took a step of trying to involve in active trade. They took over some type of trade and started controlling them. They turn out to be very vigorous in trade unions. As a matter of facts, they selected some leaders who played an important role in the American trade. These include people like Giovanniti and Tresca. Some of the trades they were very active in were as we are going to discuss below. They involved themselves in active innovation. For instance, the Jacuzzi family invented the hot tub Jacuzzi in 1907. This became very rampant in the American market. This Italian family also made propellers. These were for supplying to the American military during the war. They were also very active and developed some jet water pump. All these products from the Italian family played an important role in the American market(Cannistraro, et.al., p.60). Another place where the Italians played ventured into the market was in the coffee field. An Italian by the name Vince developed a filter for extraction of oil from the coffee beans. These filters entered the American market very rampantly. It is estimated that at least 10 million of them are still being sold annually. They also ventured into the hotel market. For instance, some became chefs. They left a legend in the hospitality market. For instance, chef Boyardee left a legend of being the best in America in making the best spaghetti dinners. He was also known as the best in making the best pizza mix, sauce and pasta. There was also a famous Italian immigrant, who started a restaurant in Cleveland. In 1930, he began a company for canned foods. Throughout the 2nd world war, his company was the biggest supplier of food to the U.S army. This was a step of the Italian immigrants, into the trade market of America. An Italian immigrant, pepsin began making wagons in 1917. Up to date, this company is still running and is estimated to produce at least 8,000 wagons in a day. The above are just but a few fields in which the immigrants ventured into, in the world of trade. Secondly, they started taking part in the political systems America. They were beginning with the city politics. The second generation of Italian immigrants became vigorous in politics. They produced some great public figures such as Laguardia, Vito and Caller. Some instances where the immigrants were involving themselves in the American politics include: during the American evaluation. American Italian played an important role in support American colonists. Secondly, the immigrants played an important role in the American civil wars. A massive number of Italians served as officers in the civil wars. It is estimated that they were more than 100 Italian Americans. More than 200,000 American Italians served the U.S military during the Second World War (Cannistraro, et.al., pp 92-102). Thirdly, they were able to manipulate the newfound privileges. This included the political and economic influences which created hospitable environment to new immigrants. After the Second World War, the Americans revised their immigration policies. The policies became lighter to the immigrants and more people could migrate into America. The Italian Americans had a privilege, since they had supported the American government during the war. The discrimination went down and with this, they were able to settle better in America, and invest with less fear (Cannistraro,et.al., p.80) The above strategies worked well for the Italians. However, they did not go undeterred. For instance, there was the major challenge that came with tribalism and racism. The Italians in America had the label ââ¬Å"coloredâ⬠, and so faced discrimination like any other immigrants in America. They were discriminated in many places in America, and so they found it difficult to apply their strategies. For instance, when they tried to enter the American market, initially, their products were undermined, and hence sold at a cheaper price. The popularity of their products only came to grow after a long duration of time and struggle(Morrison,et.al., p. 59). In conclusion, though the immigrant laws changed, this does not have a great impact on how the Italian Americans are treated. Up to date, many Native Americans still look down upon the nonnative Americans. In other words, we cannot actually argue that the Italian strategies worked out completely for them. There is still some need to reduce the amount of discrimination in America. Get online essay writing help from professional writers at premium custom essay writing service.

Education and youth integration into European labour markets the case Study
Education and youth integration into European labour markets the of Balkan countries - Case Study Example e employers recruits & selects the most efficient and smart candidate who is a blend of adaptability, flexibility, vision, critical thinking and charisma. Hence, it is justified to argue that the above mentioned consequences are fruits of globalization that potential employees of 21st century have been reaping in an extremely challenging, complex and unstructured business environment. Education, in this scenario, plays vital role because it informs and shapes the mindsets of youths, who are would-be employees. In fact, the purpose of education is to provide students an insight over contemporary challenges in their society, sharpens their critical thinking / intellect and mentally prepares them for any adverse or favorable future outcomes. For instance, the students learn how they could assimilate pressure and upgrade themselves to comply with modern rules, expectations and demands. This paper will throw light in detail how different kinds and levels of education shape the access of y oung people to jobs of varying advantage and the smoothness of the transition from school to work. The researcher will specifically take into consideration the educational policies, frameworks and models presently implemented in European Union to enhance educational level and prepare students to successfully commence their careers in an uncertain and unpredictable external business environment. It should be emphasized that education may resolve financial problems that are actually the root cause of societal unrest and uncertainty. In other words, the uneducated have become outliers since they barely find any respectable employment opportunity, thereby contributing to growth of unprivileged classes. However, it should not be confused that only free market economic system and capitalism has...The interaction and coordination among people has improved tremendously in last 3 decades after the advent of internet and subsequent use of desktop PCs, laptop notebooks, Personal Digital Assist ants, mobile devices etc. Indeed, there has been greater focus today on research and development function because every nation has understood that a country, with technological backwardness, may not succeed and prosper in todayââ¬â¢s extremely challenging external environment. The importance of education in personal and financial development could not be denied. Without education, a person in 21st century could face oneself insecure and unsafe because of complexities, unpredictability and challenges. The educational systems across Germany and United Kingdom have focused on school-based and work-based training sessions, thereby reducing youth unemployment rates and contributing to youth integration in labor markets to a greater extent. Similarly, Austria, Denmark and Netherland also have low youth unemployment rates and greater integration levels. In contrast, France, Italy, Greece and Spain are among notable countries that have very high youth unemployment primarily because of les s focus on vocational specialization and work-based training. Most of the poor and economically unsound Balkan countries have been grappling with grave issue of unemployment, and provide limited educational facilities to every youth.

Hyderabad city
Hyderabad city Introduction: Hyderabad, the capital city of the state of Andhra Pradesh is one of the fast growing urban assortments in India. It is located on the Deccan plateau which is in the southeast part of India and it is a typical inland city .Hyderabad has a semi-arid climate and an annual rain fall of 75 centimeters. The city of Hyderabad is famous for its lakes; it has about 5 lakes surrounding it. These lakes help in the water supply for the city of Hyderabad. Hyderabad has one of the most beautiful lakes with boating facilities for visitors. These places also offer sports like Para sailing, water scooter, etc. these lakes are home for many migrating birds. Hyderabad has a population of 5.2 million inhabitance that is the quarter of the population of the state of Andhra Pradesh and it has a population growth rate of 10% a year. Other than the population Hyderabad has an uncontrolled industrial growth in and around itself. Due to the population and the industries surrounding Hyderabad the demand for water supply is very high. The water that is necessary is provided by the river Musi and the 5 lakes surrounding it these 5 lakes are Hussain sagar Saroornagar lake Osman sagar Himyat sagar Shamirpet Lake These lakes in Hyderabad are manmade which serve the purpose of storage and supply of water of the great city of Hyderabad. Hyderabad gets its rain in the south west monsoon period in the Indian climatic chart. Most of the rain fall occurs in the months of June to September. What these lakes do is they store this rain water so it can be utilized in the time of need. Hyderabad is known as the ââ¬Å"city of pearlsâ⬠. The city is a major hub for information technology industries as well as pharmaceutical industries, biotech industries. Due to the presence of so many people and industries the demand for water supply is more, and this demand for water supply is provided by the lakes surrounding Hyderabad. (Ramachandraiah, C. and Sheela Prasad (2004, 2003)). The main water sources and the water suppliers for the city of Hyderabad comes from the various water projects that are surrounding it the following table will explain this Pressure On Water Use: Hyderabad is a large city with a huge population having many industries and a large agriculture area because of this water coming from a single source is not sufficient; this is where the lakes surrounding Hyderabad help. First we should identify the key water users who we need to supply water. The water that is supplied from these lakes is used for Agriculture Industries Household Recreation Environmental uses Agriculture: agriculture is essential for the production of food and to cultivate we need water. So the water that is stored in these lakes is supplied for agricultural purposes by using pipe lines but mostly in India water needed for agriculture is used from bore wells. In Hyderabad 35% of the water is supplied for agriculture. Industries: industries play a vital role in Hyderabad and Hyderabad is a place where new industries are being built every ware .in order for these industries to run sufficient water should be supplied. These industries are located in Patancheru, Bolaram, BHEL, Hi-tech city; generally 15% of the citys water is supplied to these areas. Household: 40% of the water that is being supplied to Hyderabad is used for household purposes .Since it is a city it contains many people and also because of the industries people will be visiting due to this a large amount of water is needed this water is supplied by the lakes surrounding it. Recreation: 5% of the water that is being supplied to Hyderabad is used for recreation purposes like water parks like Ocean Park; Jalvihar. This water is also used for golf course which is at Bolaram. The water used in swimming pools also comes under recreational purposes where Hyderabad ha s a lot of swimming pools around it. Environmental purposes: in this water usage includes artificial lakes intended to create wildlife habitat, fish ladders, and water releases from reservoirs timed to help fish spawn and the Hussain Sagar Lake was created mainly for this function and it is located in the center of the city. Demand /Supply Issues: For the city of Hyderabad there are many demand and water supply issues which need to be kept in mind considering the population and economic growth if we need to fix this problem we need to identify and develop new supply sources almost continually. Increase in population growth rate, overexploitation of ground water, poor sewage treatment, declining surface water resources and deterioration of ground water quality these are the major water related issues in Hyderabad. The major supply and demand issues and the factors that affect this for Hyderabad are concerned with the following Population growth: Hyderabad has a Population of 5.2 million and having a growth rate of 2.5% ever year is considered to be a large city and the population is very high because of this the supply and the demands needs of the citizens are not met correctly .Due to this large population supply of the required amount of water is very difficult. Increased affluence: This is also an issue due to the increase in population and poverty in India increasing affluence without doubt means more water consumption from needing clean fresh water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and basic hygiene service. Rapid urbanization: Due to the rapid urbanization of the city of Hyderabad and its constant expansion because of this it requires investment in water infrastructure in order to deliver water to individuals and to process the concentrations of wastewater, because of this rapid urbanization the water supply to all the people is not going well and this has become a major issue. Expansion of business activity: since Hyderabad is a large city and a site for many businesses and industries and also the number of industries and businesses are growing in a constant rate due to this it will attract many people and it will lead to urbanization an increase in population and because of this increase there will be in issue for supply of water for all these people. Climate change: climatic change plays an important role in the supply of water for the city of Hyderabad every year the amount of rainfall is decreasing or due to the climate change the rainfall is not falling in the sufficient time. Because of this there is an issue in the supply of water for the city of Hyderabad. Pollution and water protection: Due to the dumping of pollution into the rivers and lakes that are produced by humans and industries surrounding Hyderabad the water in them cannot be used and the water protection is also not so grate so we cannot use this water, due to this the supply of water is gradually decreases. This is by far one of the major issues concerned with the water bodies surrounding Hyderabad. Pressures On Water Quality: In addition to encroachments, pollution of lake waters by untreated domestic sewage and toxic industrial effluents has been going on over the years in the city of Hyderabad. The lakes that used to provide drinking water do not do so now. First in the city of Hyderabad there were supposed to be six industrial areas but there are now twelve areas and also many of these industries are located near the lakes due to which all the lakes are getting polluted because of the wastes that are coming out from these industries. Because of these effluents that are coming out from the industries the lakes are becoming toxic and because of this toxicity the lakes are becoming devour of any life. Some of the important rivers polluted by the industrial effluents are Bollaram, Isakavagu, Nakkavagu, and Manjeera. A study conducted by HUDA showed that 18 water bodies we most polluted while 67 were less polluted and out of the 36 lakes only 6 lakes were in useable condition. The pollution control board was unsuccessful in implying the Environment Protection Act, 1986, the Water Act, 1974 and the Air Act, 1981.HUDA gave particulars abort 169 lakes covering an area of 90.56sq.km.amongs these 25 are private, 62 are governments and 82 are partly government partly private. According to the law these areas must be kept from any construction to prevent any type of pollutions to the lakes and to allow free flow of water into the lakes. There are about 200 Central and State laws to protect environment in India (Sinha, 2001:47). As per section 24 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, poisonous, noxious or polluting matter shall not be discharged, directly or indirectly, into water bodies, sewers or on land. Similarly, under sections 7 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986 ââ¬Ë no person carrying on any industry, operation or process shall discharge or emit or permit to be discharged or emitted any environmental pollutant in excess of such standards as may be prescribed (Divan and Rosencrantz, 2001: 653, 676).The government of Indias (GOI, 1992) policy statement on abatement of pollution declares four guiding principles with the objective of integrating environmental considerations into decision making (Ibid.: 36): (i) prevention of pollution at source, (ii)adoption of the best available technology, (iii) the polluter pays principle, and (iv) public participation in decision making Referencing: Ramachandraiah, C. and Sheela Prasad (2004) ââ¬Å"Impact of Urban Growth on Water Bodies: The Case of Hyderabadâ⬠, Working Paper No. 60, Centre for Economic and Social Studies, Hyderabad. Designing Fear: A Brief History of Hate Crimes at Elmhurst College Elmhurst College is a small, private, four-year college. Though affiliated with the United Church of Christ, the college seeks to educate its students for life in the global society. As such, Elmhurst College welcomes students of many faiths. At the heart of the collegeââ¬â¢s spiritual life is the college chaplainââ¬â¢s office, which offers worship programs, community service opportunities, and spiritual guidance for students from all faith traditions. To ensure that the college can represent, embrace, and engage all of the religious communities on campus, the chaplainââ¬â¢s office employs nineteen co-chaplains and interfaith advisors. Leading the charge as the campusââ¬â¢s primary chaplain is the Rev. H. Scott Matheney. In the fall of 2008, Rev. H. Scott Matheney had been the chaplain of Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois for 11 years. A graduate of Whitworth College and Princeton Theological Seminary, Matheney arrived at the Elmhurst College with having already served for many years as the Presbyterian and United Church of Christ Chaplain at Columbia University and New York City. In his first decade at the school, Matheney had played a key role in the establishment of the NAACP Chapter on campus, spearheaded the annual Holocaust Education Project and Habitat for Humanity projects, instituted the Religious Lecture Series to explore different faith traditions, and provided significant outreach to all religious groups on campusââ¬âparticularly the Muslim community. Matheney was proud of the progress made on key religious issues on campus, and felt that the campus was successfully fostering an environment that allowed individual members of the community to learn from each other... ..., curtains, and other items that make the space friendly and welcoming to all. ââ¬Å"If thereââ¬â¢s any good that has come from things like thisââ¬âSafia, the things they see at the Interfaith Youth Core, even September 11, I think itââ¬â¢s two-fold,â⬠Matheney says. ââ¬Å"First, thereââ¬â¢s been a dramatic movement of interfaith agendas and issues. And second, thereââ¬â¢s a recognition that the Muslim community has to step into the public square and not be a quiet minority on our Christian campusââ¬âor in our Christian nationââ¬âanymore. Theyââ¬â¢ve had to become able to become a force that defends, defines, and differs themselves as they engage society. There has been a noticeable uptake in their engagement here since Safia left, even if things did slow down for a while. They, and we, are coming to terms with what it means to become a part of U.S. society. And weââ¬â¢re learning from each other every day.ââ¬

Luck Co. Case Study
Luck Companies Case Study Mngt 393 1. Physical Environment Segment. I would have to say neutral effect on industry because even though the resources this industry excavates is positive for the industry, scouting locations, availability of resources and diminished resources offset those positives. Also important but NOT the most important would be Economic (Neutral) and Demographic (positive). 2. Most influential of 5 forces would be Rivalry among competing firms (High) and Threat of Substitute Products (moderate). The industry Luck Company operates is composed of a few big players who compete against each other.Substitutes of stone/rock would be a threat to the industry, depending on what building materials are needed there are some alternatives such as wood, metal, steel, aluminum and other new artificial building materials. This is not an attractive industry for new entrants. Barriers to Entry are very high. These companies in the industry are operating on economies of scale that c annot be replicated. Incumbents who are operating with positive returns should continue their strategy and look for opportunities for growth. 3. Major competition in the mid-eastern region consists of Vulcan Materials and Martin Marietta Materials. Both of these companies operate on cost-leadership strategies and will continue because Luck Companies uses a differentiation strategy. 4. The most critical value chain activities for Luck Companies would be Operations (superior- industry leader of industry technology) and Distribution (neutral- I didnââ¬â¢t see anything to suggest they are superior/inferior to their competition) and the major support functions are their human resources departments (superior ââ¬â Luck Companies operates under a ââ¬Å"values driven cultureâ⬠that is intended to achieve greater financial outcomes and better performance 5.Significant Financial Factors ââ¬â 25% Market share in Virginia as of 2010. Net Sales of 2. 5 billion in 2009, down from 3 . 0 billion in 2006 but economic factors weight in on those numbers. Non-financial Factors ââ¬â Excellent Reputation ââ¬â Over 3 generations of Luck Family running the company and giving back to the community. As of recent, a renewed campaign called ââ¬Å"The Values Journeyâ⬠has been implemented with many different core values of leadership to advance the values-based culture of Luck Companies and to build exceptional experiences with their customers and drive differentiated growth. . SWOT analysis ââ¬â STRENGTHS ââ¬â Operations, distribution, Human Resources a. Opportunities ââ¬â Keep Status as Industry Leader in operations of mid-Atlantic region. Expand on industry market share. Continue good relationships with customers ââ¬â Industry (rock crushing, excavation) is primarily focused on serving general geographical area where the site is located, distribution channel relationships will be maintained as long as they are respected and nurtured. Keep Hum an Resource focus on core values to enable Luckââ¬â¢s reputation to stay intact. b.Threats ââ¬â Threats to market share are limited because Luck is industry leader in customer service and logistical excellence which is valued by their customers. Human Resource focus with core values training ensures that the companyââ¬â¢s core values are evident throughout all departments of Luck Companies. WEAKNESSES- Industry depends heavily on economic conditions. Luck Companies is diversified which is a potential weakness. Availability of Natural Resources. a. Opportunities limited ââ¬â Economic downturn can devastate the industry which is mostly comprised of home building & furnishing. As shown in Lucks case during 2008 when they had to lay off 1200 associates. Diversification can a weakness if oversight gets lost and core values fade. Industry is dependent on natural resource harvesting (rocks/minerals/etc. ). Depletion is a major concern. b. Threats enhanced ââ¬â Reduction in market share of economic downturn. Inability to locate more resources due to depletion of resources. 7. Major competitive advantage would be their efficient operations and excellent customer service. c. OPERATIONS V- High value for company and customers (sustainable)R- Rare but not obsolete (parody producing) I ââ¬â Costly to imitate. Hard to copy economies of scale (sustainable) N ââ¬â NOT ââ¬â non-substitutable, there are industry substitutes d. Human Resources V ââ¬â High Value for customers (sustainable) R ââ¬â Rare ââ¬â Luckââ¬â¢s Human Resources are leader in industry (sustainable) I ââ¬â able to imitate but at high price. Years of core value training has developed excellent HR skills throughout company (sustainable) N ââ¬â Non-substitutable. Customer care and follow up care are not substitutable. (Sustainable) 8.Current Strategies- Business Level strategy is differentiation ââ¬â Luck Companies is the industry leader in logistics and exc ellent customer service. Competitors focus on cost leadership strategy. Corporate level ââ¬â Luck focuses on value training and up keeping their core values that give them a competitive advantage. Cooperative strategy- Luck has acquired formerly known Lee Tennis Court and changed the name to Har-Tru. They are the global leader in tennis court surfacing and their current focus is brand image building in china, then taking their reputation to other markets.International strategy is similar to their cooperative strategy because their only international strategy in based on their Har-Tru acquisition. 9. Firm seems to be excelling in many areas. I donââ¬â¢t see many problem areas other than sustaining market share of Stone division and building brand recognition of Har-Tru in china to promote in other geographic locations around the world. 10. Q1: Do you see Luck Companies entering any other excavation markets such as oil, natural gas, coal (energy)? Q2: How and what benchmark goa ls does Luck Companies have for Har-Tru?

Cloning Essay - 1224 Words
Should Human Cloning be Legal? nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;Cloning captured the publicââ¬â¢s attention when Scottish scientists startled the world in July of 1996 when they announced the birth of a sheep named Dolly which they had cloned from the nucleus of an adult mammary cell and a sheep egg. Ever since this spectacular event occurred people have been thinking about the possibility of cloning humans. What would a clone be like? His/her physical appearance would be the same as the person he/she was cloned from, but depending on the society it would be brought up in itââ¬â¢s personality would be totally different. Many people in this decade believeâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Why clone human embryos? There are many legitimate reasons for investigating cloning. Embryologists believe that the research could help improve the lives of further generations. ââ¬Å"Cancer research is possibly the most important reason for embryo cloning. Onc ologists believe that embryonic study will advance the understanding of the rapid growth of cancer cells. Cancer cells develop at approximately the same phenomenal rate as the embryonic cells do. Power outages free essay sample
All countries have different plagues that led them to bedevil in raising their growing economy. Like the Philippines we are facing a tribulations in the power outages of our country. Energy crisis is one of the struggles facing our country. Power supply have a big part in our lives that make our life easy in doing tasks. Just think of how your life will be without electricity or power. We all know how inconvenient it is without electricity so were afraid of brownouts and power fails. The Philippines is second to the U. S. in terms of geothermal power capacity but transmission and distribution of power failures and now the power outages is the big problem. How thatââ¬â¢s happened? All of us want to have a joyful life in our country but how can we do that if our other leaders is dishonest so thatââ¬â¢s the reason why we canââ¬â¢t be united to help each other. We will write a custom essay sample on Power outages or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page We have a corrupt politicians in our government thatââ¬â¢s why there are so many problems in our country. The secretary of energy Petilla says that our country has a capacity to build a power-generation facilities but thereââ¬â¢s no investors willing to take that offer or responsibility because in my opinion, some investors didnââ¬â¢t trust in our government politicians. Most Filipinos are afraid in the power outages since 1990ââ¬â¢s under President Cory Aquino because they are much concern in the fastest growing economy in different country in Asia. Since 1990, some Filipinoââ¬â¢s experienced a power problem such as brownouts or blackouts, power failures, power outages and loss of power. In terms of the shortage of power supply, we can have a diesel-powered generator but it is so too much expensive. Because we will import the fuel to the other countries so we will be more dependent to other country and it canââ¬â¢t help. In Goldman Sachs report, $46 billion is the total investment to set up modern power generation in the Philippines and we all know that it is not easy to get a big amount like that now. I therefore conclude that most Filipinos are still suffering in their lives now. Former President Cory Aquino talk about the development of country in he r speech in 1992 and according to her ââ¬Å"the self-respect of the Filipino nation would be reinforced by strong institutionsâ⬠. She wanted to increasethe growing of infrastructure in our country. But can we see what happened now, thereââ¬â¢s no change at all. Weââ¬â¢re just learning to cope with the lack of stable electricity and thatââ¬â¢s the problem in us. Donââ¬â¢t just speak but do your aspirations be done. For me, we need to limit our usage in the electricity to save power. Then we need to be resourceful in many ways so we can create some techniques that can save more power to help our country in the problem energy crisis.

The Trolley Dodgers free essay sample
CASE 3. 1 THE TROLLEY DODGERS In 1890, the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers professional baseball team joined the National League. Over the following years, the Dodgers would have considerable difficulty competing with the other baseball teams in the New York City area. Those teams, principal among them the New York Yankees, were much better financed and generally stocked with players of higher caliber. In 1958, after nearly seven decades of mostly frustration on and off the baseball field, the Dodgers shocked the sports world by moving to Los Angeles. Walter Oââ¬â¢Malley, the flamboyant owner of the Dodgers, saw an opportunity to introduce professional baseball to the rapidly growing population of the West Coast. More important, Oââ¬â¢Malley saw an opportunity to make his team more profitable. As an inducement to the Dodgers, Los Angeles County purchased a goat farm located in Chavez Ravine, an area two miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, and gave the property to Oââ¬â¢Malley for the site of his new baseball stadium. We will write a custom essay sample on The Trolley Dodgers or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Since moving to Los Angeles, the Dodgers have been the envy of the baseball world: ââ¬Å"In everything from profit to stadium maintenance . . . he Dodgers are the prototype of how a franchise should be run. â⬠1 During the 1980s, the Dodgers reigned as the most profitable franchise in baseball with a pre-tax profit margin approaching 25 percent in many years. In late 1997, Peter Oââ¬â¢Malley, Walter Oââ¬â¢- Malleyââ¬â¢s son and the Dodgersââ¬â¢ principal owner, sold the franchise for $350 million to media mogul Rupert Murdoch. A spokesman for Murdoch complimented the Oââ¬â¢Malley family for the longstanding success of the Dodgers organization. ââ¬Å"The Oââ¬â¢Malleys have set a gold standard for franchise ownership. . . . We will do all in our power to live up to that standard. 2 During an interview before he sold the Dodgers, Peter Oââ¬â¢Malley attributed the success of his organization to the experts he had retained in all functional areas: ââ¬Å"I donà ¢â¬â¢t have to be an expert on taxes, split-fingered fastballs, or labor relations with our ushers. That talent is all available. â⬠3 Edward Campos, a longtime accountant for the Dodgers, was seemingly a perfect example of one of those experts in the Dodgers organization. Campos accepted an entry-level position with the Dodgers as a young man. By 1986, after almost two decades with the club, he had worked his way up the employment hierarchy to become he operations payroll chief. After taking charge of the Dodgersââ¬â¢ payroll department, Campos designed and implemented a new payroll systemââ¬âa system that reportedly only he fully understood. In fact, Campos controlled the system so completely that he personally filled out the weekly payroll cards for each of the 400 employees of the Dodgers. Campos was known not only for his work ethic but also for his loyalty to the club and its owners: ââ¬Å"The Dodgers trusted him, and when he was on vacation, he even came back an d did the payroll. â⬠4 Unfortunately, the Dodgersââ¬â¢ trust in Campos was misplaced. Over a period of several years, Campos embezzled several hundred thousand dollars from his employer. According to court records, Campos padded the Dodgersââ¬â¢ payroll by adding fictitious employees to various departments in the organization. In addition, Campos routinely inflated the number of hours worked by several employees and then split the resulting overpayments fifty-fifty with those individuals. The fraudulent scheme came unraveled when appendicitis struck down Campos, forcing the Dodgersââ¬â¢ controller to temporarily assume his responsibilities. While completing the payroll one week, the controller noticed that several employees, including ushers, security guards, and ticket salespeople, were being paid unusually large amounts. In some cases, employees earning $7 an hour received weekly paychecks approaching $2,000. Following a criminal investigation and the filing of charges against Campos and his cohorts, all the individuals involved in the payroll fraud confessed. A state court sentenced Campos to eight years in prison and required him to make restitution of approximately $132,000 to the Dodgers. Another of the conspirators also received a prison sentence. The remaining individuals involved in the payroll scheme made restitution and were placed on probation. QUESTIONS 1. Identify the key audit objectives for a clientââ¬â¢s payroll function. Comment on both objectives related to tests of controls and those related to substantive audit procedures. 2. What internal control weaknesses were evident in the Dodgersââ¬â¢ payroll system? 3. Identify audit procedures that might have led to the discovery of the fraudulent scheme masterminded by Campos.
